so the counterstrike source, that you can download from the site, is it playable anytime, like even after camp is over??

never mind, read the fine preint of the deal, you have to activate a vonage account

Probably playable anytime, but you won't be able to connect to VAC servers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Pretty sure it's the same for normal CS too.

yes, you'll have to buy half-life 2 if you want to play CS:S on internet servers. Half-Life 2 itself is also a good game though, i'd recommend it.

I'm pretty sure VAC servers will instantly spit you out if you try to conenct to them. I don't think Valve has put too many discount deals on HL2 - that if you buy it straight from STEAM, it's around 20 USD for a CS:S - HL2 deal.

$20 for CS:S, $20 for HL2: DM, or $45 for HL2, HL2: DM, and CS:S.

So am I hearing correctly? You've successfully grabbed a Steam-less version of CS:S for CAEN 2006? Looking forward to when I arrive on Session 3+, then.

Yep, steam-less versions of CS:S are at camp, though everyone plays normal CS (non-Source-engine). You can try to start up some CS:S servers though and see if people will join. :) I'd personally like to play a bit of Source, so track me down if you're interested (I'll be at session 3 (not 3+ though)).

What's the difference between source and non?

CS: Source uses the Source engine, which was developed by Valve for Half-Life 2. It features better graphics, etc. Counter Strike, (Non-Source) doesn't use the Source engine.

The reason we don't play CS:S at the labs is because it has so many files and takes about a decade to download and install. It's also strictly worse than CS1.6.

Yeah, it's over a gig.

Not to mention half the computers (Sun computers, etc.) kill themselves if you try.

Some of them even die on standard CS ;D
