Greetings, all(rather, the 3-6 people who actually stop by the newly renovated forums).
The dates of Camp are up, and the classes are being 'scheduled'(I actually have no idea what the classes will be, but, judging from past experience, and the fact that (roughly) the same classes are offered every year, I think it's safe to assume what's going to be offered). And even though it's eight months away, it'd be cool to keep some feeling of continuity. So, you know, everyone's not like: "So, what have you been up to for the last year?" It'd be sweet if we got some activity going on here, seeing as we do have a loyal fanbase. Combined with the (tentative) Camp CAEN e-mail addresses, we can get some great communication going on.
I'm jus' saying.

Definately. Never too early to look forward to CC. So supposedly the CAEN Labs at Pierpont got new computers this year. Any chance of CS:S coming our way?

Is that Paul T., the third year digital film guy? Nice to see you online!
source is a possibility, but you'll have to wait until the staff gets there this summer until we know for sure
Richie stated the dates for CAEN are up, and while there are some tentative 2006 dates on the website these are definitely not finalized yet so just keep that in mind.

kramPierpont lab specs:
Dell Optiplex GX260
CPU: P4 2.26GHz
RAM: 1GB
Video gard: Radeon 7500 (AGP, 32MB memory)
CS:S prognosis: Good to go. (The vid memory is at the bare minimum though, so leave those textures on low detail)
Also, as Brian is not returning as HC, there is a new head counselor this year. Jamie says it's me, though I haven't signed anything yet.

You're returning Mark - that's good news. I haven't heard too many counselors coming back this year.
I am fairly unsure that a Radeon 7500 will run HL2/CS:S well - that's DX8 generation, which in itself, is automatically fairly old. The gig of RAM would help, and the processor is a big upgrade, though I'm not sure why the 2.26Ghz is in there, given that Intel has discontinued the Socket 478 processors a few months ago.

The machines are recycled from another lab, and they are actually still the slowest PCs on campus. Think of the pierpont labs as younger brothers that get hand-me-downs and you'll get the idea. They are several years old at this point.

Those specs do seem to be cutting it a little close... But eh, we'll make do.
I know I'm planning to return this summer, as a counseller this time with any luck instead of a CIT :D Finally have the necesary college semesters under my belt.
Those machines would be able to run source, although not very well. The question is whether or not I can make an installer like the one we used for 1.6. Remeber CS is a steam game and every user is 'supposed' to have their own account. But, I wouldn't worry too much I'm sure we'll figure something out.
It looks like the following people will be returning this summer:
Myself (jon krauss)
Mark Diehr
Kevin Flannery
Jordan Cohen won't be coming back this summer because he got an internship with IBM. Evan may return if he doesn't get an internship. The others we'll have to wait and see. Either way I'm sure we'll have fun this summer.

Forget not I, Tony Cheng. See you next summer.
I hear Mark Ito is coming too.
The information posted earlier is a bit off we will actually not be in the pierpont labs next year. We will be using most other labs on NC including one in the new CS building most likely.

Any word on the dorms? I've heard somewhere that Bursley is unlikely for CC2006...
EDIT: While I'm at it, any chance Jamie has gotten around to talking about classes for 2006?
The dorms will be baits this year, as bursley is closed. As to classes they will be announced within the upcoming weeks.

So i assume the computers in the labs will be better-anywhere we go since it won't be PierPont..

Yeah, since Pierpont has a strong history of having the worst computers on North Campus at all times.
Pierpont is being redone next summer, but we will be using the new CSE building labs which are brand new and are still being put in:)

Do we have any word on the hardware in those labs yet?

Intel P4, 3.4 GHz (2 CPUs)
2GB general ram
ATI Radeon X600 Pro (256 MB onboard ram)
They are fairly nice machines. Not slow at all.

That should be more than enough to handle source. I can run it beautifully on an old 2.8 Ghz P4 with a Radeon 9600 128 Mb.

and then some.

Now that camp has started, everybody still plays CS HL, not source.
