I've been getting a boatload of invites, as have my buddies in the system. I'd guess they're trying to vastly increase the number of users - perhaps they're about to go live?

I think they did it to rival Yahoo's space increase.

Also, to those who want invites, I need your first name, last name (these can be pseudonyms if preferred), and the e-mail address you would like the invite sent to (not the e-mail you want to have on g-mail)

I think yahoo had space increases because of google's new mail.

Google wouldn't care about the space increase if they didn't have an e-mail program...

yeah, that's exactly why.

Hotmail is now blocking mail from gmail, including invites.
Yahoo puts it in the bulk mail folder.

I don't understand the invite thing? Do you need to get an invite to get G-mail? When I went to google they didn't have anything with a little mail option. Or am I just ignorant and seeing things that are there, not there.

Yes, you need an invite to create a gmail account & you can only get one from those that already have a gmail account.
