View Full Version : Ack! help me install a perl application!
Ok, some background info: I'm planning on running a site that I hope will get at least 50,000 page views per month. I got apache up and running, I enabled cgi-bin, php, and started a mysql server. So far everything is working fine. I was looking around for a good banner serving application (hey if i'm gonna get 50,000 views per month why not make some money?), and I found DAD (http://www.sklar.com/page/article/dad). So I download this thing, and suddenly I learn that it's a perl application. I have no idea how to install or run a perl application on my web server. So first I decided to get whatever I needed to host perl. I found out that Mac OS 10.2 came with perl 5.6 installed. My problem is, I now have no idea what to do. Can anyone walk me through this? I understand unix cli now, so you wont have to teach me that, but I just dont get perl at all. Anyone, please help.

You need to integrate perl into Apache using mod_perl/or something else by modifying the apache config file httpd.conf! Search on google, which will get you a head start and I haven't played with perl/apache/linux (in my case) since last summer. BTW, what's your site gonna be about...?
The site is first going to be about a new game called PlanetSide, but then I'll branch out to other games, and finally it will be a gigantamous site about everything computer related. Yeah if anyone wants to help out with it that's fine, I'll need authors. I don't feel like showing anyone yet because my art design comp has gone AWOL and I can't use photoshop http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
