View Full Version : Games this year?
I can only hope that we are moving off of Counterstrike and Starcraft, however I did just order a hl cdkey as I don't think we can change the inevitable

Yea, I'm pretty much getting SICK of CS and Starcraft... Maybe move onto some better multiplayer action games like UT2003 or C&C Generals? (Don't know if some of the CAEN lab PC's can handle some of these new games...)
I'm looking forward to gaming @ Camp CAEN 2003 anyways... (One of the BEST parts about camp since we got soo many players! ) http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Escapa and I have been playing much CS this year in general, I hope that we play just because I've had a good deal of practice. I'd be really surprised if SC is still "popular", only time will tell I guess.
As for new games there was talk of seeing if C&C: Generals will be able to run on the CAEN machines. Other than that I haven't heard of any terribly popular new games.

Since I will not be joining everyone at Camp this year, I feel that a Stan Morton Memorial game of Quake 2 should be played. Preferably with either the Chaos or Lithium CTF mod. But that's just my opinion.
If you're looking for another game to check into, I've been watching (gave up gaming for the semester) people play a lot of UT2k3 and it looks pretty friggen sweet. But that's just my two cents.

C&C Generals had better be popular - I want to see if I'm FINALLY good enough at an RTS to come CLOSE to beating greg http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif And after hearing about the new caen labs, I'm sure the computers in there will be able to handle Generals as well.
I'm soooooo sick of CS after playing since beta 1, it's not even funny. But hopefully Adam and I will be there owning all the newbs 3rd session so they get sick of it quickly too http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Actually, by the time CAEN comes around, Condition Zero should FINALLY be coming out. It's a single-player version of Counter-Strike (check it out here: http://pc.ign.com/articles/401/401057p1.html ), and the AI is supposed to friggen ROCK!! Plus, all the changes in the game (like new weapons, maps, models and such) will be carried over to multiplayer as well. Maybe that'll make CS fun for me again.....maybe not.......
GTA Vice City will be coming out for PC soon (as in a week or two). I may get that if I don't feel like saving my money for a GOOD purpose.....
I Second the move to bring lithium back that was some good stuff. ALso I doubt generals will run on the labs unless they get another upgrade;) It has insanely high requirements.

The labs have GeForce 2s, and near-2GHz processors if I remember..........the commons were upgraded from last year. No longer are they the computers that can barely run counter-strike http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The commons labs are the same as they were last summer (866 MHz Dell GX-150s). As for the 2.26GHz P4 machines with the GeForce 2s, the video drivers on them suck SO HARD that it's hard to play things (they are the drivers included with XP).
Plus, remember we don't have admin rights, so we can't install new drivers, and we also have to play games that we can run without installing them.
Sorry to burst your little bubble there, Jordan

Pierpont (the whole building) is being rennovated, but they haven't touched the actual labs. Â*All CAEN machines are on a 3-year cycle and the commons basement machines are only 2 years old.

(that site says "1 year", but that will change this summer).

MoHAA is cool, but UT2k3 is better, if we were allowed to install... o well, i guess it would be annoying to install 20+ times and load the patch, but it would be worth it if we could
1) Why don't we make a poll as soon as the games have been suggested? Preferably we could vote for more than one game.
2) The most popular game(s) should get a tournament at each session of Camp CAEN. (or just sessions 2 and 3, which I'm attending http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
3) how about Battlefield 1942?
4) How about a team tournament as well as individual tournaments?

My picks for new games:
-Riccochet
-Team Fortress Classic
-C&C (best variation that Pierpoint comps can take)
-Battlefield 1942
-WarCraft III

This isn't something to play at camp this year, but did anyone/everyone check out the Half-Life 2 footage at E3 this year? Â* Absolutely the most impressive game that I have EVER seen. Â*If you have not seen the video, do not comment how this or that game will be better. Â*It's simply not possible.
It's coming out late September this year, November at the latest.

And as per tradition, camp will have it a month before http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
So what do you guys think about the tournament idea?
Is there any way we can get PlanetSide running at Camp CAEN for the sessions?
I suck at multi-player games, but I enjoy them anyway. Is that pathetic or what? http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Anyway, what's the buzz on "Enter the Matrix"? Specifically, should I buy the PC or PS2 version?
Looking forward to multi-player games in Session 2.
I agree with Lain - MoH rocks.

Maybe we can run a DEDICATED linux RTCW ET Â*(Return to Castle Wolfenstien - Enemy Terriotory) server?
BTW, for those who don't know, IDSoftware just released the WHOLE GAME FOR FREE! I downloaded it last night and installed and it rocks! (It's only multiplayer and has a linux dedicaded server like HL/CS!)
It has AWESOME graphics but I think the CAEN lab pc's should be able to handle it like CS! Â*http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The system you should buy Enter the Matrix on is a pretty simple choice - none. The game is one of the most horrible pieces of #### I've ever played. I've watched my friends play it for a while, and played it myself for around 20-30 minutes.......it's a glitch-fest, boring, repetitive game. The only cool part about it is the fighting, but the events that happen are so random, it's just a button-masher at that. The bullet-time is kinda cool......but also just a gimmick to make up for being a crappy game.
Don't believe me? Go to www.gamerankings.com and check the game out for yourself!

i don't play many multi-player games, esp. FPS and 3PS. Should I go buy one for camp, or would someone be willing to loan me a disc (sp? disk?)?
TIA if someone is feeling generous http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Lets just say that any games that can be played at camp will be "provided" for rec time usage. You need not worry about buying your own, unless you'd like to.

Now if you can get them back on the Akamai servers (a la CC2000) that would be impressive.
Dude, we gotta play starcraft. Not all the time, of course, but starcraft is the multiplayer game.

dude, War3 flattens SC anyday. I say we get WC3 and if it's out, the expansion. I don't think it's out yet though

I haven't played Warcraft III enough to tell for myself, but many people think that C&C Generals is every bit as good, if not better than, Warcraft III. So again, you people should try it.
