I think the problem with this question is that I have different favorites depending on what the system/console is. Greg definetly has the right idea. For instance, I have a serious love of 2d fighting games as well s platformers, but I couldn't get them in the list.

I dunno...FFX was lacking something very important, say a world map?

jyorke

I was OK with that myself... a world map may have been nice, but on the other hand it would have allowed for even more random battles, which would make me want to punch the ps2.

My all time fave has got to be No One Lives Forever or No One Lives Forever 2. NOLF1 was marketed so poorly that people would not have known there were 2 NOLFs if it weren't for the 2 in NOLF2. Nonetheless both were wonderful games full of stealth, story, and action!

Here's my favorites:

PC:
Counter-Strike [HL Mod, of course but I'm kinda getting sick of it playing year AFTER YEAR!]
Warcraft III [been playing ALOT of this recently]
Starcraft/Broodwar [good game, years old finally got sick of it but an old time fav.]
C&C Generals [excellent game and graphics, still playing single player and multi, I wanna play this @ camp this year]
GTA3: Vice City [Just got this game, GRAPHICS ARE AWESOME, been playing alot of this recently also]

Right now I'm mainly playing C&C Generals, Vice City and Warcraft III. For CS, I'm not playing that much anymore since I've played it year after year but is fun when you have alot of players like @ camp. Finally, I still wanna check out UT2k3, BF1942 and Return to Castle Wolfenstien. (I heard these games are good but just didn't have the time to try them out yet, I probably will this summer once I get the $$$ to buy the games...)

New favorite game, PlanetSide. Nothing compares. Planetside.com (http://www.planetside.com)

05-30-2003, 07:18 PM
I was in the closed beta for planetside, and it pretty much just hit me as a fun-for-one-week, gets boring after type of game. The massive battles with hundreds of people is awesome, the strategy involved by combining with a ton of people is great, but there really isn't enough expansion and longevity for a game with a persistant world, meant to last for at LEAST months and months.

Ops
05-30-2003, 11:47 PM
PlanetSide would still be great to have for Camp CAEN. We could have a Camp CAEN outfit and pit squads against each other or something. And personally I think that the developers are really working hard to make the game able to last for months and months and continue to be interesting.

-D12-_LMN8R
05-31-2003, 06:43 PM
One thing I noticed about the beta is how quickly they fixed the most annoying bugs, after only a few complaints. Sony's support for the game has been amazing, so that in itself will make the game be great for months.

It probably won't run in the labs though.

Sega Saturn:
Panzer Dragoon
Virtua Cop
Fighters Megamix

Games I Wish I was Playing:
FFXI
World Of Warcraft
Socom 2
Syphon Filter Omega Strain
BF1942

speaking of planetside, i was in the beta to that too and i was unimpressed...it was fun for a few days then it just got really old. Â*Plus it took days for me to patch since they wouldnt mirror them, and my DSL connection (Earthlink...ugh) wasnt compatible with their patch server.

no kidding i love planetside (especially the BFRs) but seeing as the lab comps have, oh, say, 4MB of video memory, ain't gonna happen. for you SoE freaks try Star Wars Galaxies, AKA Planetside, But It's Still Interesting Even After A Year

Cummon guys - been waiting since CC2003 for this and Half Life 2 is definately up there http://campcaen-dev.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. Problem would be if the CAEN computers can handle it...I have it though.

I think this year the three year cycle is up, meaning new computers in the labs, meaning HL2 bliss for all, hopefully. At very least, please let there be CS:S instead of just CS.

http://campcaen-dev.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif Bah...CS:S rocks - just give it a play for a few weeks and you'll get used to it.

That is good news on the Lab computers - I somehow doubted that Dell Dimension desktops with "Intel Extreme Graphics" or some form of integrated graphics solution will make CS:S run smoothly, let along run at all.

Hehehe.. Great to see that the boards are finally back up. Any ideas what the labs are getting this year? The integrated graphics.. gadzooks.

/me recalls the 3d studio max crashes.. the awful awful crashes. So many. http://campcaen-dev.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

As for my games, to get to the topic:

HL2 (On a secondary note, Garry's mod is the greatest thing ever.)
CS:S
Halo 2
Splinter Cell: CT Beta (Buggy, but still teh funness)
Ninja Gaiden

Tons more, but meh.

I remember Greg saying a while ago that CAEN computers have a 3 year long life before they're replaced, and the Pierpont labs (http://www.engin.umich.edu/caen/wls/labs/pierpont.html) are now 3 years old. They better be replaced soon...hehe. Otherwise HL2 will suck...those things can hardly handle CS @ 640x480...

Oh well. Let's hope Greg knows what he's talking about...or that my memory isn't wrong. Hehe.

For favorite games, let's say HL2, CS:S, and StarCraft. I participated in the WoW Stress Test (which, from current news, wasn't stressful enough for Blizzard's network), and was very impressed, but I'm not willing to pay $50 for a game, and then $10/month to keep it, and that the game is useless if I stop paying. I understand MMORPGs are some people's thing, but it's definately not mine.

Now if only StarCraft2 would run off of WC3/WoW's engine...then I'd be very impressed.

As far as RPG's go, Final Fantasy VII is definately very high on my list. Though for just fun battling goes, Super Smash Brothers Melee is very good. But who can forget the Bomb game on the Atari 2600 or Pong for that matter?

Anyways, as far as FF7 goes, I've mastered that game. Without cheating, I beat Ruby Weapon. Very fun. Although, I was up 2 straight days before that maxing out all of my materia. Let me tell you, Knights of the Round takes forever to max out.

i'm still a big cs 1.6 fan. I don't really like source much either.

As far as console games most of my favorites have already been mentioned. I do love playin the old NES / SNES games they have this nostalgia value which the best graphics in the world can't beat.

Also, its good to see people talkin on the forums.

I love Final Fantasy VII... even though i've never actually beaten the game, but i've gotten pretty far. The movie is really good, too.
Kingdom Hearts is actually a really good game, a little cheesy, but a good play. I just started Kingdom Hearts 2 so i'm not sure if the second's going to be as good as the first.
Those are probably my all time favorites... A lot of people seem to like Final Fantasy VII... haha.

I enjoy Guild Wars, but I don't play the PvE anymore. I just PvP/GvG, which is a lot more rewarding (especially if you have a decent guild).

Soul Calibur 3 is the new thing for me at the moment, but Power Stone 2 used to be my favorite fighting-style game (<3 Sega Dreamcast).

But as for all time, the Sonics (especially 1 and 3) and Age of Empires I are where it's at.

And yeh, CS 1.6 is a lot better than CS: Source.
