I took Java 1 and Web Workshop 2 last year. I want to know if you have any suggestions on good classes for this year. I trying to decide between Sys. Admin., C++, or Digital Filmmaking. Which is the funnest class?

It's really had to say which will be the funnest class. I think it really depends on who you are and what you're interested in. For me, the Sys Admin might be the most fun, but i'm interested in making computers work together, as well as discussing issues such as security. Others might find Digital Film making to be cool.

That being said, I think that it might be realy good for you to take C++. C/C++ is the generally accepted language of choice for most companies. It's definetly the language for creating business apps and games; as well as drivers, consumer software, and client server programs. I also know that a lot most colleges and universities are still teaching C/C++ and learning it would definetly be something good to know. That and if you want to program for the Mac, most programs are being done in Objective C (Cocoa). Anyway, that's my $.02.

Sys Admin will probably be the most 'fun' in a very geeky sense of the word... the same way that I find writing writing my assignments for my CS classes 'fun'. Digital Film will probably be the most 'fun' in a non-geeky form of the word... if you like media at all (and I know I do), filmmaking is a great experience, and I think the all day video class is an awesome idea and we should see some really cool work from our students this year, now that we have twice the time to teach things such as editing techniques, and can hopefully get some better equipment (no promises on that though).

The programming C++ class will be a little bit of a review for anyone who knows programming in Java or another C-like language, but we will try to make it so that those who do have some skills will still be learning as much as possible. As Stan said, many colleges (including U of M) still teach everything in C or C++. Learning some C++ stills now will immensly help you if you attend a university where C or C++ is taught. Also, we require C++ for our game development class every year, and if you are already thinking ahead to taking it at Camp 2004, you'll need to know C++ by them, whether you learn it at Camp 2003 or elsewhere.

If I had to come to camp, I'd probably want to take all of the classes except for intro programming (but only because I know programming) (and I'm including the all-girls class here, it sounds neat as well), but if I had to choose one class I'd probably go for SysAdmin. But that's just me, and partially because it's the newest class we have... all of the other topics have been presented at Camp before (except for the specifics of the all-girls class).

Hope our opinions help!
