Just got that thinger in the mail
I want java! Java Java Java! I know PHP and MySQL work, and graphics design is easy. Who cares about 3dSMax, I want my Java! What's this hogwash you feed me about only being able to take Java coupled with web/graphic design? Oh well... I suppose I could always brush up on my 3d S Max skills... but I want Java!
Also, what will the Networking class encompass, and how many classes do we sign up for? 2, like last year? Cause that *cough*DOUBLED UP*cough* java class looks like it's gonna be a whole day thing. How's we's doin's this one, this year? Notice that nowhere in the brocheur or application does it mention how many to check, leaving me confuzzled.

hey there...sorry about the confusion, I will try and explain.
Like always if you aren't taking advanced classes you would have two classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. So that is why you see Java/Web or Java/VR, etc...you would take Java and then also take VR. Does that make sense? So you would check just ONE class pairing.
Now if you are taking an advanced classes it would be all day long and therefor you would only check ONE class as well. I don't have the brouchure in front of me but that is what I think it was suppose to be.
Is that clear now?? Now if you really want Java I would recommend taking the advanced class. The other classes won't interest you as much...and the networking should cover basic socket networking stuff, internet protocols, RMI (maybe). So all of that stuff is in the air. Perhaps the teacher could post and give some feedback as well.
I hope that helps, if you need anything else please let us know.

Hmm... Thanks for the prompt, and descriptive reply.
Here's the dillema, I can program fairly well, but I've never TOUCHED Java before. So I'd actually like to stick with an introductory class, just to get the handle on things.
Networking sounds fun, a bit simple, nothing rocket science, but I could learn a bit there.
I doubt theres any way I could substitute VR for Networking http://campcaen.engin.umich.edu/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Uhmm... Looks like I'm brushing up on 3d Max then... Thanks alot!
(then again, looking back on the manual, that Java Advanced with Network Programming looks COOOOOL! I think I might teach myself some Java and write up that program, then take the Adv. class...)

While I'm not a big fan of it, Java is a pretty simple language to learn. If you already know OOP C++ then learning java is a complete no brainer. There are a few tricks, but just check google for C++ to Java tutorials. It sounds like you may want to check that out and try the advanced if you're truly that psyched about Java.
