My recommendation is to get the Altec Lansing 641 (http://www.alteclansing.com/downloads/641%20SELL%20SHEET.pdf) speakers. Â*Altec Lansing usually has the best value for your money, and these are the nicest set of speakers that Altec Lansing makes. Â*It's a 4.1 set with 200W RMS (400W peak) total power, and the subwoofer has dual 6.5" woofers. Â*All in all, a very nice set, and you can find it for around $150 (including shipping) online ($143.80 with UPS Ground at EMS Computing (http://www.emscomputing.com/)). With your extra $50, buy yourself a nice pair of headphones or something.
Oh, one more nice feature about these speakers is the headphone jack on the front-right speaker, which lets you easily switch to headphones when it needs to be quiet.

I was just going to say the same thing - Altec Lansing 641 4.1 surround speakers. I got the 621, the 2.1 version, with my comp, and they are AWESOME. The quality is simply amazing for speakers that don't relatively cost that much.
