A PHP class is probably in the works for next year.
Matt Pugh and I basically turned the "Developing Web Applications" class 1st session into a PHP class this year.
I am planning on teaching PHP and MySQL as a "database-driven web site" class in 2003. It would most likely be an all-day advanced class for a single session, but we're looking into different options.
Don't quote me on having a PHP class, but I know that many of our instructors throughly like the language and it is becoming more and more popular, so we will try our hardest to provide a class.
If you have suggestions for things that you would like to see taught in PHP, please post them! They'll help me work on curriculum if/when the class happens. :-)

Last year it had ben mentioned that their may be a class on building your own computer. I know that in our class alot of the campers were interested in this. I know there would have to be an extra cost but i alot of people that i have ben talking to from camp last year said thay would pay it.
jyorke thanx for responding so promptly.

yeah, a PHP class would r0xx0rz. I have a sorta db driven website right now, but all my delete functions are messing up, so I have to go back in and change the code.. (my code likes doing that to me.. it works once or twice, then screws me over)

I'd definitally love to help a building computer course. I've done a couple myself (Mine, helped a bunch with Donovan's, built one for a couple friends, etc.) and keep up to date on AnandTech and Tom's Hardware all the time. The problem is how we would take the course and cover it over two weeks.

I think building a computer would fall more in the minisession category, although one afternoon may not be enough time. I just cant see a two week course that covered building a computer. Also, it would be something that I'd like to take, but if it was one of the main classes, there are other classes I'd like to take more.

I have to agree that a building computers mini-session would be cool, but probably not a full class.

^^ Riiiight. What he said.
Anyhow... Building your own computer can be covered in a 5 hour latenight session. Â*True skills in this feild, unfortunately, come from experience. Â*For Instance, what do you do if your motherboard is incompatible with your hard drive? Â*You obviously don't use the same hard drive / motherboard combo all the time, so you only get to rely on your troubleshooting skills. Â*Unfortunately, outside of basic logic and technique, (about 1 day of teaching, IF you do it slowly) - there isn't much you can teach. Â*If you have them bring their own parts, and something ends up being DOA, etc... what then? Â*If you were to have a clear objective, say... teach them how to build a computer, what all the components are, different data structures, initial set-up and widespread computer infrastructure and organizational design - well, that would be a bit better (for instance, teach installation of linux and windows, how to set up networking in linux/windows, how to build the computer, what all the parts do specifically (i.e. digital and analog components), and teach basic troubleshooting skills.
I think an apt title for that class, however, would be 'Hardware management and Integration' or something. . . Then again, there goes out my wish for a basic linux class. ^_^

Would anyone be interested in a class on information security (covering crypto, network security, etc)? I'm currently taking such a class and it's pretty interesting stuff.
